MDL compact surge protective devices (SPDs) are designed to protect the DALI control-lines of lighting systems, typically used in tunnel applications, from the effects of lightning and transient over voltages. These SPDs are installed on mounting plates, typically within the luminaires itself or in the lighting cabinets. MDL SPDs protect 1-pair (2-wire) lines and feature a compact non-pluggable (monobloc) enclosure based on Citels' well-known MLPC series shape. The hybrid protection circuit combining a gas discharge tube and clamping diodes offers a full-mode protection across the data-lines by additionally providing specific protection for the signalling ground wire (where needed).
